Board Meeting Minutes 1/25/18

HOA Board Update

Per the commitment made to us at the Oct annual meeting, the HOA Board members are working to improve communications and transparency. To that end, Kim and myself have volunteered to be board observers and "comms specialist". My purpose here is to help improve one of the complaints I have had, which was the lack of communication. If you have suggestions or comments, please let me know. Do keep in mind that I am not a member of the board and am only here, volunteering, to disseminate information.
In last night’s (Jan 25) Board meeting here is what was discussed…
3 out of 4 Board members were present, plus 2 board observers.

Communications Update

• A moderated blog page will be created and updated with news and happenings from the Board.
• Neighbors will be able to post questions via this blog page (remember, it will be moderated. The point is to improve communications and not provide a forum for attacks and trolling.)
• The board ‘s aim is to keep this information “fresh” (quarterly, at a min).
• FAQs will be added and curated.
• Quarterly financial will be posted.
• Information from the DOT project monthly meetings will be posted.
• Reminders of CC&Rs guidelines will be posted.
• The blog, emails, and online surveys will be leveraged more to reduce postage costs.
Stay tuned, for more information regarding the completion and availability of this blog page. For now, continue to submit your questions to Desert Edge (http://desertedgepm.com/)

Community Update

• Over $7k of unpaid dues have been collected since Oct.
• The board is working/negotiating with UDOT for a fair and equitable “land swap” (the retention pond) to ensure we get like-for-like (grass, trees, etc)
• The board is gathering landscaping bids, for the retention pond, to submit to UDOT.
• If you have landscaping/contracting friends or family who would like to bid on completing the retention pond, please contact the board.
• Landscaping plans, for the retention pond, include xeriscaping areas that aren’t conducive to play.
• Additionally, there are discussions around leverage equity from the “land swap” to xeriscaping other areas (the trail on Tippecanoe) within the HOA. This lends itself to reducing our costs and dues, long-term.
• The exact $ amount (e.g. profit) of the land swap is still yet to be confirmed, mostly due to UDOT lethargy, UDOT’s lack of info/specifics of the new space, and the need for more landscaping bids.
• Closing the “land swap” is tentatively scheduled for April.
• The Board is aware of complaints some neighbors have regarding Desert Edge and are actively addressing the situation and exploring resolutions.

FAQ
Q: How many homes are in the HOA?
A: 225
Q: Why don't we use community members for labor, and pay them?
A: Short answer, liability. Community members aren’t licensed/bonded to protect against poor workmanship, damage, etc.
Q: What value does Desert Edge provide us?
A: Short answer, buying power. DE is able to get better pricing for contracting work to be done in the community.
